the first page of Google.  In fact, many SEO experts will tell you it’s a waste of time.

I don’t buy that.  Are some directory sites a waste of time?  Yes, I guess many (or most) are, but none are going to hurt you.  So, if you are doing the tedious job of submissions while watching Desperate Housewives on a brain dead Sunday night, why not do it?

The difficult thing to to know is which directories are indeed a waste of your time.  I don’t think that’s easy to determine.  I see some directories I’d never expect showing up in my Google backlinks.  Hence, I’ll error on the side of over-submitting.
