According to a HubSpot survey (October 2009), the average Twitterer has:
*  300 followers
*  follows 173
*  posted 420 times

According to the Social Media Guide, the best time to tweet is 9 am Pacific Time or 12:00 noon Eastern Time.  Plus, it coincides with the end of the business day 5 PM, in London.

You can be notified when you receive a direct message on Twitter.  Here’s how to set this up.
1.  Log into your Twitter account.
2.  Click on Settings
3.  Check the box that says “Direct Text Emails”.

The Chief Marketer survey also asked why brands and companies are using social networks.  The responses were varied, but show the folowing results.

Drive traffic to web site - 69%
Speak to fans - 59%
Generate leads - 46%
Generate sales - 40%
Generate opt-ins - 28%
Keep up with competition - 20%
Handle customer problems - 16%

More people are using Twitter than ever before.
US adult Twitterers (or is it Tweeterers?) totaled 6 million in 2008.  In 2009, the amount of Twitterers tripled to 18 million.  Projected Twitterers for 2010 are 26 million; that’s 15.5% of all adults who are online!
