In Business, Image is Important

If you’re not sure what I mean by that,  I’m sure you’ve heard the expression: “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

This is certainly true in your appearance and your dress.  I always tell my salespersons to always dress better than the people they are meeting with.  In today’s casual business atmosphere, you can always downgrade your dress by dropping the tie and jacket, but if you’re dressed casually, there’s nothing you can do to improve your look when your client or prospect looks better than you.

Appearance is important, but so is style and what your carrying into your appointment.  That’s why I recommend that all my salespersons carry a Royce Leather product as a portfolio.  The one I have has my name embossed on the front and it’s sharp.  It may be a minor thing, but I think it says to my prospect: “this is a guy whose on top of his game.”
