Google Does Not Use Meta Tags

It’s been long suspected that Google does not use meta tags in its search engine rankings, but now it has been officially confirmed by Matt Cutts of Google.

Google confirms that some search engines may be using meta tags for search engine rankings, but it is not one of them.  Cutts goes on to say that Google uses over 200 ranking guidelines, but meta tags are not one of them.
