We think of it as something new, but the internet is really almost forty years old.
1965 — The first online system prototype is developed and the term “hypertext” is coined by Ted Nelson.
1981 — First email sent.
1985 — First domain registered.
1989 — HTTP created.
1991 — World Wide Web software released by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.
1992 — HTML completed and web pages with pictures first appear.
1993 — www usage begins in the USA and the first online newspaper is published.
1994 — White House opens its own web site.
1995 — eBay and Amazon founded.
1997 — The term “blog” is coined.
1998 — Google opens.
2000 — The burst of the dot com bubble.
2003 — MySpace and I-tunes launched.
2004 — Mozilla Firefox, the preferred browser for SEO workers, is launched.
2005 — YouTube and PromoTXT text message solution goes online.
2008 — Do-it-yourself mobile marketing site 84444.com goes online.
